AS220 Youth Recipient Of 2012 National Arts & Humanities Award


AS220 Youth, a free arts education program for young people (14-21) with a special focus on those in the care and custody of the state, has been awarded the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program award by the by the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

The award is considered the nation's highest honor for after-school arts programs and members of AS220 were invited to the White House for a special ceremony where they were recognized by First Lady Michelle Obama and the President's Committee on the Arts. Mayor Angel Taveras and the AS220 Youth will host a reception at Providence City Hall on November 28th to celebrate AS220's National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. The reception will feature an exhibition of AS220 Youth photography from the Kennedy Plaza Portrait Project and a performance from United, a hip-hop group from UCAP Middle School.
