Celebrate A Summer Of Fun In The City!

Providence, RI- Mayor Angel Taveras and the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism, Lynne McCormack, Director, are pleased to announce a summer of fun in the Creative Capital with free events happening every week including the Friday Night Concert Series at Waterplace Park (June 15 - July 20), the BankRI Independence Day Celebration @ India Point Park and the Celebrate Providence! Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative (July 1 - August 31). All performances are free and open to the public.

The BankRI Independence Day Celebration kicks off on July 4th at India Point Park at 7:30pm with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Pops. The Pops is conducted by Francisco Noya, a well-known figure in the Boston-New England music scene. He served as Music Director of the Longwood Symphony Orchestra in Boston for 12 seasons and is a prominent member of the Conducting Faculty at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. As Resident Conductor of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, he conducts Pops and Education concerts and the Summer Pops Series. The celebration comes to an awe-inspiring end at 9:00pm when the sky lights up with a spectacular fireworks display.

For the third summer in a row the City teams up with 95.5 WBRU to flood Waterplace Park with some of the nation's hottest up and coming acts during the Friday Night Concert Series at Waterplace Park taking place every Friday night at 7:30pm from June 15 to July 20.

From music and dance to Opera In the Park, Mayor Angel Taveras' Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative showcases the art of local neighborhoods in city parks from July 1 to August 31. The Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative is an annual summer-long performing arts series that encourages Providence-based non-profit organizations and artists to create public programming for the city's diverse neighborhoods.
