City Teams Up With WBRU To Bring Free Concerts To Waterplace Park This Summer

Providence, RI - Mayor Angel Taveras, the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism and 95.5 WBRU are pleased to announce this summer's Friday Night Concert Series at Waterplace Park. All performances are free and open to the public and begin at 7:30pm.

This summer the City has again teamed up with 95.5 WBRU to bring some of the nations' best rising talent to the Waterplace Stage. The series will feature some of the nations' best emerging alternative rock acts as well as the city's own rising stars. Six dynamic acts will light up the stage at one of the city's most breathtaking parks from June 7th through July 12th.

On June 7, the Brooklyn trio New Politics kicks the series off. Originally hailing from Copenhagen, these alt-rockers and their "throw caution to the wind" attitude are touring in support of their latest LP "A Bad Girl In Harlem," due Spring 2013.

On June 14, Providence's own Torn Shorts takes the stage. The year has started off with a bang for this homegrown act as they've released a new album and took home the 2013 WBRU Rock Hunt crown.

On June 21, Manchester rockers The 1975 take the stage. The band, whose name is derived from the writings on the back of a Beat poetry book the singer was given, are embarking on a US tour in support of their major label debut LP.

On June 28, new kids on the block The Neighbourhood come to Providence. Formed in August of 2011, this California quintet has caught the internet by storm with such hits as "Female Robbery" & "Sweater Weather." They are touring in support of their debut LP, "I Love You," released on April 23rd of this year.

July 5th has the eight-piece act The Mowgli's bringing their Southern California sound to Waterplace. The band's collaborative messaging is inspired equally by the magnetism and energy of San Francisco, as it is by the solitude and serenity of the Big Sur coast.

On July 12, The Cold War Kids close out the series for the summer. These Long Beach, California rockers are touring in support of their newly released 4th studio LP "Dear Miss Lonelyhearts."
