  National Competitions and Funding Resources

Organization   Description

Art AtoZ Grants Provides information on a number of arts organizations, grants, and links to other funding sources for artists and organizations.   
Arts International Offers support to US artists and organizations to participate in major international performing arts festivals and visual arts exhibitions. Also provides support for travel to other countries to conduct research, build cultural knowledge, and develop projects.   
ArtsLink Provides support for US artists, curators, and arts organizations to work in 27 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.   
Artslynx Provides resources for a range of arts disciplines and arts administration, also provides employment resources.   
ArtsNet The Media, Arts and Culture Unit provides funding in an attempt to strengthen the role of arts and media in the community. Provides mostly grants to organizations. Grants to individuals are largely limited to research and training.   
ASCAP Foundation (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Provides funding focused on music education and talent development programs. Also provides individual scholarships for high school and college level musicians.   
BMI Foundation Provides grant and scholarship opportunities to non-profit organizations and individual composers.   
Corporation for Public Broadcasting Offers grants and links to funding to programs in radio and television targeted at public access channels.   
Dance Theater Workshop A performing arts institution that works to present the work of artists and companies in the performing arts. Artists benefit from promotional, administrative and technical services, and a guaranteed performance fee.   
Ford Foundation The Media, Arts and Culture Unit seeks to strengthen the arts and media as important contributors to the communities and societies in which they function. Most of the Foundation's grant funds are given to organizations. Grants to individuals are limited to research, training and other activities related to program interests.   
Fundnetservices Provides a good listing of foundations that fund the arts.   
Gunk Foundation A charitable operating foundation challenging the current market-dominated system of art production and moving art into the "public realm." Provides grants for public art projects to individuals, groups, and organizations.   
Independent Television Service Provides funding opportunities for independent producers and television stations to create programs for public television.   
Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Awards four grants annually to playwrights and/or non-profit theaters to support and encourage the creation of new works.   
Meet the Composer A grantmaking agency that fosters the creation, performance, and dissemination of music by living American composers   
National Endowment for the Arts An independent agency of the federal government, the NEA provides funding to non-profit organizations in all disciplines. Provides individual fellowships to literary, jazz, and heritage related projects.   
National Endowment for the Arts Cultural Funding: Federal Opportunities is a comprehensive online resource provided by the NEA detailing federal funding available to arts and cultural projects.   
National Endowment for the Humanities Offers grants to individuals and non-profit organizations for projects dedicated to preserving and strengthening the nation’s culture. The Endowment does not fund the creative and performing arts but does fund the history and criticism of arts.   
National Foundation for Jewish Culture Provides support at various levels to artistic work that highlights the Jewish experience in some form.   
New England Foundation for the Arts The National Dance Project supports the creation of dance work through competitive production grants.   
Rockefeller Foundation Creativity and Culture Program provides funding to the arts and humanities through grants to individuals and organizations.   
Texas Cultural and Arts Network Offers an extensive listing of funding sources from corporations, foundations and governments nationwide.   
The American Music Center Offers grants to composers and organizations. Also provides information about national current and ongoing grants, competitions, calls for scores, and other opportunities for composers and performers.   
The Doris Duke Foundation Offers support to the performing arts community through a variety of grants and programs.   
The Foundation Center Use The Foundation Center’s User Aids to find information on funding to individuals.   
The Foundation Center A comprehensive resource for information about foundations. Includes an extensive listing of grantmakers and links (http://www.fdncenter.org/funders/) to private foundations, corporate giving programs, community foundations, and public charities. Use the keyword "arts" in the search functions to find those who fund the arts. The site also provides a lookup tool (http://lnp.fdncenter.org/finder.html) for more than 50,000 foundations.   
The Getty An philanthropic organization that offers grants to both individual artists and organizations to created projects that focus on art and art history in the context of preserving cultural heritage.   
The Graham Foundation Provides funding to individuals and institutions focusing on architecture and the built environment.
