Department of Art, Culture and Tourism:
Gallery at City Hall

July 2009

Prints by Margot Rubin
from June 1st until July 3rd 2009

The Gallery at City Hall: Rubin’s prints combine the techniques of monoprinting, woodcut, etching, and carborundum printing into multilayered abstract images rich in vibrant colors. The prints make reference to books, textiles, and symbols from many cultures while attempting to capture universal forms. Margot Rubin’s work has been show both locally and nationally. She teaches at the Coleman Center for Creative Studies at the Newport Art Museum, Newport R.I.

The exhibition will run through July 3rd and is open to the public 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

During his first month in office Mayor David N. Cicilline created the Gallery at City Hall to showcase the work of local artists. Offering space to artists and organizations that might not have a permanent gallery, the Gallery at City Hall has held an eclectic array of work highlighting the artistic and cultural diversity that is found in the Providence community.

Shows are held on a monthly basis and often coincide with cultural events occurring elsewhere in the City of Providence. Past shows have included a number of student art exhibits, demonstrating the Mayor’s continued interest in education.

The Gallery at City Hall is open during regular business hours, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Artists and organizations interested in displaying their work should contact Paul Brooks at 401-421-2489.
