"We Shall Not Be Moved: International Graphics on Gentrification, Homelessness, & Resistance"

A traveling exhibition of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics (CSPG) based in Los Angeles, California, "We Shall Not Be Moved: International Graphics on Gentrification, Homelessness, & Resistance" makes a stop in Providence and will be on display at the Gallery at City Hall until May 15th.  The irony that art is often easier to house than people inspired the CSPG to create this poster exhibition about gentrification and homelessness.  In the context of the current housing crisis around the country, with growing numbers of foreclosures, this exhibition opens up a dialogue that hopes to inform the public of specific policy remedies to homelessness.  "We Shall Not Be Moved" showcases solutions to the daunting dilemma of homelessness in an innovative and accessible manner.  By combining the power of art with a commitment to this urgent social issue, this exhibition will make homelessness easier for the public and for policy makers to understand.

During his first month in office Mayor David N. Cicilline created the Gallery at City Hall to showcase the work of local artists. Offering space to artists and organizations that might not have a permanent gallery, the Gallery at City Hall has held an eclectic array of work highlighting the artistic and cultural diversity that is found in the Providence community.

Shows are held on a monthly basis and often coincide with cultural events occurring elsewhere in the City of Providence. Past shows have included a number of student art exhibits, demonstrating the Mayor’s continued interest in education.

The Gallery at City Hall is open during regular business hours, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Artists and organizations interested in displaying their work should contact Paul Brooks at 401-421-2489.
