Hunter Music Series Partners With Providence Premieres

Providence Premieres, a new initiative launched to premiere new music in Rhode Island, will hold its Inaugural Concert of World Premieres featuring eight composers from Providence, New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles at the historic Governor Henry Lippitt House Museum, starting the Museum's 2013 Hunter Music Series, on April 19th at 8pm.

The evening will showcase three world-class musicians: Rhode Island Philharmonic players Alexey Shabalin (Violin) and Hyunjung Choi (Harp), and former Metropolitan Opera Soprano Blythe Walker. An historic event for Providence, the ensemble will premiere eight newly commissioned works written by eight hot, new artists. Flying in from across the country, the composers will be present to talk about their new pieces and engage with audience members at the concert and during the cocktail reception following the premieres.

Providence Premieres was founded to fill a void in the creative capital. Artistic Director and Founder Julien Touafek commented that Providence, unlike Boston, New York City, or Hartford, does not have a dedicated new music organization that advocates for the creation of new music. "Even so," he commented "this is not just a concert about new music, this is an event celebrating innovation in new art and creative thinking for the creative capital. That's what Providence Premieres is about: innovation and new art. And, who knows, we may be unveiling the next Philip Glass or Kronos Quartet right here in Providence."
