June 22nd Waterplace Park Concert Moved To The Whiskey Republic

THIS PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE WHISKEY REPUBLIC LOCATED AT 515 SOUTH WATER STREET. CONCERT IS FREE AND BEGINS AT 7:30PM

Providence, RI - Mayor Angel Taveras, the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism and 95.5 WBRU are pleased to announce performances by The Silks and Tower & The Fool on June 22 as part of this summer's Friday Night Concert Series at Waterplace Park. This performance is free and open to the public and begins at 7:30pm.

Formed in the summer of 2010, The Silks have burst onto the country blues scene in New England with ferocity and enthusiasm. Front-man and songwriter Tyler- James Kelly has assembled musicians with resumes consisting of The Midnight Creeps (Jonas Parmalee), and Electric Service (Matt Donnelly) blending it into a sound that is all their own.

With compliments that vary from drawing comparisons to The Rolling Stones in style and songwriting to a soundman shouting "that's the most fun I've ever had!" after a show, The Silks have garnered a reputation as a band that everyone found themselves wanting to see overnight.

The Tower and The Fool started as a songwriting project between friends Alex Correia and Chris Rosenquest who wanted to just write songs that they loved and have some fun doing it. Apparently they had a little too much fun as their little project's catalog of songs began overflowing. Too excited to just file them all away, the only logical thing to do next was get them all on CD.

Being a duo, they felt, just wouldn't cut it in the studio so they upped the ante by adding the drumming of their producer/friend Mike Poorman (ex-Hot Rod Circuit), Bryan Donahue on bass, Zac Clark on keys, and long time friend Chris Capaldi on lead and slide guitars.

With an EP and LP under their belt, the band is beginning to pack crowds in where ever they go and winning accolades such as "Best Rhode Island Band" at the New England Music Awards.

Don't think this is going to their head, as Mike Poorman told Chris Conti of the Providence Phoenix, "We are still in the honeymoon phase where it's still just fun to make music with friends. We aren't trying to be the 'next big thing.' We are happy writing and playing the music that naturally comes out of us, and I think that is good enough for all of us."
