Mr. Lincoln's Soldiers Comes To Roger Williams Park Carousel

Travel back in time 150 years with the Rhode Island Heavy Artillery to experience our country's greatest tragedy and triumph, the Civil War. Learn from re-enactors of the 14th RIHA what it was like to fight for freedom and Union in 1864.

The Living History's 14th Rhode Island Program, founded in 2001,
trains Providence high school students to re-enact the history of the regiment.

Today's 14th participates in re-enactments and historical ceremonies. Students learn about the role of African Americans in the Civil War by being immersed in the life of the Black Civil War soldier.

They in turn teach their peers and the general public. It is their duty to keep the memory of the 14th alive and to carry out its mission of freedom and Union.
