My Providence Video Contest Extended to July 1
Providence, RI - June 3, 2011 - Amateur videographers are invited to play virtual tour guide and show the world (or at least the Internet) what they love about their hometown during the "My Providence" video contest. The contest, originally scheduled from April 1- June 1, has extended its deadline until July 1, due to a computer glitch which may have hampered electronic submissions.
Entrants are asked to submit video between 30 seconds and four minutes long. They are required to sign and complete an entrance form, available on the Providence Department of Art, Culture & Tourism Web site or by a link on the PWCVB Web site and then upload their video to the contest's moderated YouTube Channel. There are two categories: ages 17 and under and ages 18 plus. Films will be judged on creativity, technical excellence, and artistic merit.
Winners will be announced no later than August 1. Prizes include: lunch with Providence Mayor Angel Taveras; a "Dine Out for a Year" prize pack worth $1,200; a $1,000 shopping spree package; a private VIP party for 10 at McFadden's Restaurant & Saloon; tickets to the Rhode Island Film Festival; and a VIP tour of Roger Williams Park Zoo with an animal encounter.
The contest is being coordinated by the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau (PWCVB), the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture & Tourism, Providence Monthly, "The Rhode Show," the Rhode Island Film Collaborative, the RI Film Festival and Leadership Rhode Island.
