ECAS Theater Presents: Doņa Rosita the Spinster

June 21 @ 7:30pm, June 22 @ 3pm, Trinity Repertory Company, 201 Washington Street, Tickets Are $20. Doņa Rosita is a young woman who's lover is sent away. She promises to wait for him, and wait she does. It is only years later when the lover still does not return, that Rosita starts to doubt her promise, and worries that she's wasted her life, now being too old to find another love. Knitting Nation Phase 4: Pride

June 21, 12pm - 6pm, Waterplace Park, Free And Open To The Public. Knitting Nation is an exploratory and multi-faceted art project inaugurated in 2005 by artist, designer and RISD professor Liz Collins, which combines performance, site-specific installation and collaboration with clothing and textile design and manufacturing. It is a homage to and reconstruction of the original rainbow pride flag using all eight colors, ascending the steps at Waterplace Park. 15 knitters will rotate positions every half hour, as the large banner grows up the face of the hill. Movies On The Block

June 19, Dusk, 46 Aborn Street, Free And Open To The Public. Bring your friends and family to watch your favorite flicks on Providence's only outdoor movie screen. Every Thursday during the months of June, July, August and September movies will begin at dusk. Don't forget the picnic blankets and snacks! Parking is available in the adjacent lot. Annual Contemporary American Indian Show

Living In Memory / Viviendo En Memoria

Cryptic Providence

June 13 - September 28, North Burial Ground, 5 Branch Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. The historic North Burial Ground in Providence will host a summer long art and performance project by Provincetown artist Jay Critchley. Fifteen projects from visual artists and performers from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Michigan, Oregon, Ontario, Canada and New York City were invited by Critchley to create original, site-specific installations and performances throughout the cemetery. Self And Others

Exhibit Runs Through July 8, David Winton Bell Gallery, Brown University, List Art Center, 64 College Street, Free And Open To The Public. The artists included in Self and Others explore their identity in relationship to others, i.e. family, friends, or society. For more information please click here.


Protest

Exhibit Runs Through July 11, Bannister Gallery, Rhode Island College, 600 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Free And Open To the Public. Protest is an exhibition of evocative black and white photographs by LeRoy Henderson that capture the deep and conflicted emotions of anti-war protests. For more information please click here.


Panel Discussion At Bert Gallery

June 19, 6:30pm, Exhibit Runs Through June 26, Bert Gallery, Corliss Landing, 540 South Water Street, Free And Open To The Public. This event featues panel discussion on painter Gordon Peers from the point of view of RISD colleague Thomas Sgouros,and painting student Ruth Dealy. The backdrop for the panel discussion is the current Bert Gallery exhibit, Painter Gordon Peers: Transformation During the War Years. For more information please click here.


Peter Ciccariello: Recent Work

Exhibit Runs June 19 - July 25, Above Providence Optical Gallery, 75 Weybosset Street, Free And Open To The Public. Peter Ciccariello is an interdisciplinary digital artist and poet whose limited edition fine art pigment prints are palimpsests of perception, incorporating aspects of sculpture, photography, and painting techniques. Roomful Of Blues

Providence Sound Session '08

July 6 - 12, Various Locations Downtown, Pricing Varies By Performance. Providence Sound Session '08 draws performers from all over the world to Providence, RI, for a weeklong, multi-stage celebration of music from July 6th through July 12th. Created to transcend musical genres, the festival includes free outdoor concerts at Waterplace Park, intimate performances at The Providence Black Repertory's Xxodus Café, and a Carnival-style parade ending in a vibrant block party in the heart of downtown. This year's festival features diverse and exciting artists, with headlining acts from Jazz legend Jon Hendricks, R&B sensations 112, Dance Music pioneer Wunmi and up and coming Jazz star Maurice Brown. Concerts Under The Elms

June 26, 6:30pm, Lawn Of John Brown House Museum, 52 Power Street, Tickets Are $8 For Adults, Free For RIHS Members And Children Under 12. The Rhode Island Historical Society will kick-off its Concerts Under The Elms outdoor summer concert series with the patriotic music and "pop" repertoire by The American Band. Concerts Under The Elms are held Thursday evenings through August 7th. Bring chairs and blankets to spread out on the grass and enjoy a picnic dinner during the concert. Thursday Nights Live At ALCO

June 26, 5:30pm - 7pm, American Locomotive Works, 555 Valley Street, Free And Open To The Public. American Locomotive Works (ALCO) is pleased to present Thursday Nights Live at ALCO. 2008 RI PrideFest

One of New England's largest pride celebration features the largest GLBT Marketplace and Business Exposition in the region with a mix of national and local entertainment. Providence Improv Fest

June 25 - June 29, Various Locations Downtown, Tickets Are $10 Per Event, Discounted Passes Also Available. The Annual Providence Improv Fest has turned five years old and is running June 25 through June 29, with performances and improv workshops in downtown Providence at Trinity Repertory Company, Perishable Theatre and AS220. Since its humble beginnings in 2004, the PIF has grown in stature and national reputation, with the number and quality of participating groups consistently increasing. This year's line-up of improvisational acts, which once again represents an international artistic base, continues this trend.

Call For Parade Participants. The centerpiece of Providence Sound Session is the extraordinarily colorful nighttime parade, themed Divine Providence, that winds its way through Providence's downcity neighborhood on July 12 at 10pm. Festival Ballet Providence 2008 SummerDance Child and Adult Classes. Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School Camp. Program 1 Runs July 21 - July 25 From 10am - 2:45pm, Program 2 Runs July 23 - From 10am - 2:45pm, July 23 - August 1 From 10am - 2:25pm, Nathanael Greene Middle School, 721 Chalkstone Avenue. A concentrated workshop for middle and high school age music students who are interested in jazz and/or rock performance. Students may attend either one or both weeks of the camp. Providence Black Repertory Company's Summer Program. Program Runs June 23 - July 11, Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, 276 Westmister Street, $750 per Student. The Black Rep is pleased to announce Carnival in the Capital, a 3-week intensive Caribbean arts program that introduces young artists entering 5th-8th grade to the collaborative, artistic, and cultural traditions of Carnival around the world through hands-on activities, a week-long series of Youth and Neighborhood Workshops, and a culminating parade performance.
