Thursday Nights Live At ALCO

June 26, 5:30pm - 7pm, American Locomotive Works, 555 Valley Street, Free And Open To The Public. American Locomotive Works (ALCO) is pleased to present Thursday Nights Live at ALCO. Starting Thursday, June 26 and continuing for nine straight weeks until Thursday, August 21 this concert series will bring together bands with local, national and international roots. Les Petits Chanteurs Du Mont-Royal

June 27, 7pm, St. Joseph's Church, 92 Hope Street, Admission Is $5. A wonderful concert with a program including; Ave Maria, 'Panis Angelicus, folk songs, music from films and songs from Quebec. Mirror Stage

Food, Art & Wine Night

June 26, 5:30pm - 8pm, Gallery Z, 259 Atwells Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. Gallery Z will feature a sampling of food from the Cuban Revolution, a showcase of the latest Gallery Z art exhibit and a sampling of a white and red wine. Outside And In Rhode Island

Exhibit Runs Through July 3, Providence Art Club, 111 Thomas Street, Free And Open To The Public. In this exhibition, local artists Danna Brackenbury, Donna Kenny Kirwan and John McDonough capture the beauty of the New England landscape in a series of watercolors, oils and pen and ink works. Cryptic Providence

Exhibit Runs Through September 28, North Burial Ground, 5 Branch Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. The historic North Burial Ground in Providence will host a summer long art and performance project by Provincetown artist Jay Critchley. Fifteen projects from visual artists and performers from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Michigan, Oregon, Ontario, Canada and New York City were invited by Critchley to create original, site-specific installations and performances throughout the cemetery. Vocations And Avocations

Opening Reception June 26, 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Leadership Rhode Island, 4 Richmond Square, Free And Open To The Public. Leadership Rhode Island established Gallery LRI, a changing exhibit of local artists, in December 2004 and continues to showcase local art in 2008. Artists featured in the exhibit are all graduates or current participants of Leadership Rhode Island, or College Leadership Rhode Island Sponsored by Fidelity Investments. Body Language: Representing The Female Form

Exhibit Runs Through July 12, Royal Collection Of Fine Art, 298 Atwells Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. Throughout the history of art, the female form has been a significant, revealing and even controversial subject. Paintings By Sean Thomas

Opening Reception June 26, 4pm - 8pm, Exhibit Runs Through July 19, Gail Cahalan Gallery, 200 Allens Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. Sean Thomas's paintings depict minimal landscapes, highway scenes and architectural studies that offer an exploration between the natural and artificial elements within the environment. Traer Scott Book Signing
June 28, 4pm - 7pm, Gail Cahalan Gallery, 200 Allens Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. Due to high demand, many were unable to get copies of Scott's best selling books at the opening reception. Join them for this signing, meet Traer Scott and view the uniquely exceptional black and white photography from both of Traer's books on display.


Peter Ciccariello: Recent Work

Exhibit Runs Through July 25, Above Providence Optical Gallery, 75 Weybosset Street, Free And Open To The Public. Peter Ciccariello is an interdisciplinary digital artist and poet whose limited edition fine art pigment prints are palimpsests of perception, incorporating aspects of sculpture, photography, and painting techniques. Vieux Farka Touré

June 27, 7:30pm, Waterplace Park, Free And Open To The Public. Combining the tradition Malian melodies of rock, reggae, and Saharan blues, Vieux Farka Touré continues the musical legacy of his internationally famous late father, Ali Farka Touré. Providence Sound Session '08

July 6 - 12, Various Locations Downtown, Pricing Varies By Performance. Providence Sound Session '08 draws performers from all over the world to Providence for a weeklong, multi-stage celebration of music from July 6th through July 12th. Created to transcend musical genres, the festival includes free outdoor concerts at Waterplace Park, intimate performances at The Providence Black Repertory's Xxodus Café, and a Carnival-style parade ending in a vibrant block party in the heart of downtown. This year's festival features diverse and exciting artists, with headlining acts from Jazz legend Jon Hendricks, R&B sensations 112, Dance Music pioneer Wunmi and up and coming Jazz star Maurice Brown. Providence Improv Fest

June 25 - June 29, Various Locations Downtown, Tickets Are $10 Per Event, Discounted Passes Also Available. The Annual Providence Improv Fest has turned five years old and is running June 25 through June 29, with performances and improv workshops in downtown Providence at Trinity Repertory Company, Perishable Theatre and AS220. Since its humble beginnings in 2004, the PIF has grown in stature and national reputation, with the number and quality of participating groups consistently increasing. This year's line-up of improvisational acts, which once again represents an international artistic base, continues this trend. For more information please click here.


Concerts Under The Elms

June 26, 6:30pm, Lawn Of John Brown House Museum, 52 Power Street, Tickets Are $8 For Adults, Free For RIHS Members And Children Under 12. The Rhode Island Historical Society will kick-off its Concerts Under The Elms outdoor summer concert series with the patriotic music and "pop" repertoire by The American Band. Concerts Under The Elms are held Thursday evenings through August 7th. Bring chairs and blankets to spread out on the grass and enjoy a picnic dinner during the concert. Movies On The Block

June 26, Dusk, Corner Of Westminster Street & Union Street, Free And Open To The Public. Bring your friends and family to watch your favorite flicks on Providence's only outdoor movie screen. Every Thursday during the months of June, July, August and September movies will begin at dusk. As always, introducing the show are International shorts presented by the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Don't forget the picnic blankets and snacks! RISD Museum Presents: Free-For-All Saturdays

June 28, 11am - 4pm, RISD Museum, 224 Benefit Street, Free And Open To The Public. Check out the Styrofoam exhibition and find out how artists create imaginative and beautiful works using this material. In workshops, held both inside and outdoors (weather permitting), make your own cool styro-art to take home. Call For Parade Participants. The centerpiece of Providence Sound Session is the extraordinarily colorful nighttime parade, themed Divine Providence, that winds its way through Providence's downcity neighborhood on July 12 at 10pm. Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School Camp. A concentrated workshop for middle and high school age music students who are interested in jazz and/or rock performance. Students may attend either one or both weeks of the camp.
