Thursday Nights Live At ALCO

July 31, 5:30pm - 7pm, American Locomotive Works, 555 Valley Street, Free And Open To The Public. American Locomotive Works (ALCO) is pleased to present Thursday Nights Live at ALCO. Straight Mixed Culture

August 2, 7pm - 2am, Firehouse 13, 41 Central Street, Admission Is $5. Straight Mixed Culture is a homegrown creative experience born out of common humanity and portrayed through our diverse experiences. Movies On The Block

July 31, Dusk, Corner Of Westminster Street & Union Street, Free And Open To The Public. Bring your friends and family to watch your favorite flicks on Providence's only outdoor movie screen. Every Thursday during the months of June, July, August and September movies will begin at dusk. As always, introducing the show are International shorts presented by the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Don't forget the picnic blankets and snacks! RI Rhythm & Blues Heritage Festival

August 2, 4pm - 7:30pm, Greater Kennedy Plaza, Burnside Park, Free And Open To The Public. Food, Art & Wine Night

July 31, 5:30pm - 8pm, Gallery Z, 259 Atwells Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. Gallery Z will feature a sampling of food from the Napa Valley Grille, a showcase of the latest Gallery Z art exhibit and a sampling of wines from the Napa Valley Region. This month view Prints & Multiples the exhibition features samples of several different methods of print making highlighting a variety of techniques. For more information please click here.


Cryptic Providence

Exhibit Runs Through September 28, North Burial Ground, 5 Branch Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. The historic North Burial Ground in Providence will host a summer long art and performance project by Provincetown artist Jay Critchley. Fifteen projects from visual artists and performers from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Michigan, Oregon, Ontario, Canada and New York City were invited by Critchley to create original, site-specific installations and performances throughout the cemetery. Cultural Awakenings 2008: Sydney Burleigh

Exhibit Runs Through September 26, Bert Gallery, 540 South Water Street, Free And Open To The Public. After returning from his European studies in the 1880s, Sydney was a huge advocate for the Arts and Crafts movement, decorative arts and the intergration of fine arts and design in the Rhode Island community. Subject To Change: Art And Design From The 20th Century

Exhibit Is Ongoing, RISD Museum, 224 Benefit Street, Adimission Is $8 For Adults, $5 For Seniors & $3 For Students. This exhibition displays masterworks of painting, sculpture, furniture, ceramics, drawings, photographs, costume, textiles, and industrial design from 1900 to 2000, all drawn from the Museum's permanent collections. Friday Night Concert Series At Waterplace Park: Greg Abate

August 1, 7:30pm, Waterplace Park, Free And Open To The Public. Greg Abate, who averages 150 performances a year, is coming off a month long tour of the United Kingdom. The Woonsocket native, known globally as the "prince of bebop," takes nothing for granted. Work is a constant - always has been and always will be. Greg Abate is widely considered among jazz writers and aficionados to be one of the "best post bebop alto players out there today." For more information please click here.


Providence Italian Arts & Music Festival

August 7 - 11, Various Locations Downtown, Free And Open To The Public. Non-stop live musical entertainment will run from opening until closing each day of the festival. While all the live entertainment has an Italian connection, there is a wide variety of approaches, including classical opera and arias, hard-driving swing, jazz accordion and many others. Vendors of food, beverage and souvenir goods will be set up along the river, and in park spaces surrounding the stages. For more information please click here.


Celebrate Providence!
Neighborhood Performing Arts Series

Mayor David N. Cicilline, the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism, Lynne McCormack, Director, and the Department of Public Parks, Robert F. McMahon, Superintendent, are pleased to announce the Celebrate Providence! 2008 Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative. This program brings music, dance and theatre into neighborhood parks throughout the city. All events are free and open to the public.

Rhode Island International Film Festival

Perishable Theatre's Fledgling Festival

Young Actors Summer Institute Showcase

August 1 & 2 @ 7pm, Trinity Rep's Chace Theater, 201 Washington Street, Tickets Are $10. Trinity Rep has opened its doors for boys and girls in grades 5-12 to explore a world of creativity and theater under the instruction of Rhode Island's most knowledgeable theater professionals with the Young Actors Summer Institute. PPSRI Walking Tour Leaders Neened. The Providence Preservation Society is looking for individuals interested in leading walking tours for elementary and middle school students. Upon completing a 2.5 day training provided by PPS, docents are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program. This year's training will take place September 23-25 and will concentrate on the College Hill and Fox Point neighborhoods.
