September 13, 20 & 27, 11am - 5pm, Lippitt Park, Free And Open To The Public. Now in a new location, come find some top-notch, independently-made products, everything from unique hand-made jewelry, handbags and metal-work to paintings. Movies On The Block

September 11, Dusk, Corner Of Westminster Street & Union Street, Free And Open To The Public. Bring your friends and family to watch your favorite flicks on Providence's only outdoor movie screen. Every Thursday during the months of June, July, August and September movies will begin at dusk. As always, introducing the show are International shorts presented by the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Don't forget the picnic blankets and snacks! Arnold Mesches: Coming Attractions

Easy By Force: Prints & More By Alec Thibodeau

September 14 - October 12, Stairwell Gallery, 504 Broadway, Free And Open To The Public. Alec Thibodeau lives on plants and gleefully toils in Providence, Rhode Island. Quiet Intensity: The Paintings Of Jon Petro

Romard: An Armenian Expressionist

Since 1989 Romard has dedicated his time and energy to his work, which includes oil paintings and sculptures in metal, stone and clay. Providence Art Windows

Opening Reception September 18, 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Exhibit Runs Through November 21, Begins At Design Within Reach, 210 Westminster Street, Free And Open To The Public. The art installed in ten windows in Downtown Providence creates a six-block loop that viewers can walk day or night. American A Cappella

Zulal Folk Trio

FRIDAY, September 12 - Farmer's Market - 11am - 2pm . Shop for tasty harvests from RI farms here along the sidewalk at Burnside Park. Choose from a selection of foods fresh from the fields and meet the people who grow your meal!

SATURDAY, September 13 - Skateboarding Demo - 12pm - 4pm. Fountain of Youth skate shop at 60 Eddy Street is hosting a skateboard demonstration in the Bank of America Skating Center. Owner and professional skateboarder Donny Barley invites you to "Come Skate With Us" for local skateboarders and their families. This event is supported by four other shops within 50 miles-from Boston to Westerly-with shop owners competing in a S.K.A.T.E. competition.

Centro Cultural Andino Gala Dinner

September 12, 6pm, West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom Street, West Warwick, Tickets Are $40. For 15 years Centro Cultural Andino (CCA) has produced Andean cultural events in the Metro Providence area becoming well known for art shows, music and traditional folk dancing preserving and providing education and outreach of the cultures of the Andes. Providence Latin American Film Festival Fundraiser

Artist Opportunities

Call To Galleries And Fine Art Stores. The City of Providence's Department of Art, Culture + Tourism is in the process of revamping their web site. One of the key new features is the addition of an interactive Gallery/Fine Art guide. If you have a gallery, fine art store, art supply store, etc that is not currently listed on their web site, please click here to email Michael Christofaro with the name, location, contact info, brief description and high resolution photograph (300dpi) of your business.

Photos Sought for WBNA 2009 Calendar/Exhibit. The WBNA (West Broadway Neighborhood Association) invites photographers, both amateur and professional, to submit black & white photographs to be included in their upcoming What Makes Our Neighborhood Great exhibit and calendar. Call To Musicians. The CVS Caremark Downtown 5k is looking for musicians willing to donate their services to perform at the upcoming race featuring over 5000 participants on September 21. For more information please click here for the web site or email help@cvsdowntown5k.com.

RISCA Call For Art. The Rhode Island State Council On the Arts is pleased to announce a new call for public art for all visual artists at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in downtown Providence. The deadline for entries is September 26. Interested parties may learn more about the project by clicking here.

Open Call To Child Actors. Trinity Repertory Company will be holding an open call for child actors on Saturday, September 27, from 9am to 1pm at Cardi's Furniture Superstore (Route 1A, South Attleboro, MA) for its 32nd annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, directed by Liesl Tommy. Children ages 8-12 are welcome to audition, although children who turn 13 before December 31, 2008, are not eligible. No appointment is necessary for the auditions but you must click here to download an audition packet.

All Children's Theatre Fall Class Enrollment. The classes, which are open to all children from the ages of 2-14 are mainly held at ACT's performance venue at the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School on the East Side of Providence. Acting classes introduce children to the world of theatre. Classes bring out a student's creativity, self confidence and increase their reading and public speaking skills. Perishable Theatre Classes Now Enrolling. After a summer of fixing up its dance studio and carefully listening to student needs, Perishable Theatre Arts School is ready for new and returning students to join its fall classes. Become An Artist Mentor At New Urban Arts. Arts mentoring at New Urban Arts is a wonderful opportunity for artists and educators to learn how to effectively work with high school students in a community setting. Artist Mentors are nurturing, resourceful, flexible, open to taking risks, willing to learn, and able to commit 6 hours per week from October 2008 - May 2009. The deadline to apply is September 12.
