Cryptic Providence Final Days

Final Day September 27, 12pm - 6pm, North Burial Ground, 5 Branch Avenue, Free And Open To The Public. Since June, the historic North Burial Ground in has been hosting an art and performance project by Provincetown artist Jay Critchley. Some of the highlights of the final day include:

Footnotes: A Tribute To Albert J. Jones
A performance and installation by historian Nancy Austin (Newport, R.I.) and Artist Caroline Woolard (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and featuring a tea party at 3pm.

Final Repose: A Historical & Artistic Walking Tour, 1pm - 2:30pm
This tour will examine the complex interweave of natural and man-made elements in NBG, the cemetery's evolution in response to changing attitudes toward death and burial practices, and select historical and artistic features.

Providence Open Market

September 20 & 27, 11am - 5pm, Lippitt Park, Free And Open To The Public. Now in a new location, come find some top-notch, independently-made products, everything from unique hand-made jewelry, handbags and metal-work to paintings. Movies On The Block

September 18, Dusk, Corner Of Westminster Street & Union Street, Free And Open To The Public. Bring your friends and family to watch your favorite flicks on Providence's only outdoor movie screen. Every Thursday during the months of June, July, August and September movies will begin at dusk. As always, introducing the show are International shorts presented by the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Don't forget the picnic blankets and snacks! Views And Re-Views

Exhibit Runs Through October 19, Bell Gallery, List Art Center, Brown University, 64 College Street, Free And Open To The Public. Views and Re-Views includes posters, cartoons, photomontages, and postcards spanning more than six decades, from the time of the Russian Civil War (1918-21) into the late Soviet period. Found Ground: Intervention For Vacant Urban Space

September 18 - 20, 7pm - 10pm, Begins On Eddy Street Near Weybosset Street, Free And Open To The Public. Created by Erik Carlson, Erik Gould and Erica Carpenter, Found Ground is a large-scale urban projection / installation composed of found, collected and remixed 8mm home-movies and text, projected large on "new-found" ground of Providence - in this case, on walls recently exposed by downtown demolition. Easy By Force: Prints & More By Alec Thibodeau

Exhibit Runs Through October 12, Stairwell Gallery, 504 Broadway, Free And Open To The Public. Alec Thibodeau lives on plants and gleefully toils in Providence, Rhode Island. His drawing and printmaking work includes a history of fashioning posters for various events. For more information please click here.


Agustín Patiño: Metrópolis y Orillas

Opening Reception September 24, 7pm, Exhibit Runs Through October 3, Atrium Gallery, One Capital Hill, Free And Open To The Public. Agustín Patiño is a faithful representation of Latin American talent. An avant-garde artist and creative advocate complete with a genuine spirit that combines his knowledge of architecture, sculpture and painting. For more information please click here.


Most Endangered Properties Photography Exhibit

Gallery Night Reception September 18, 6pm - 9pm, Exhibit Runs Through October 18, Burgess Building, 232 Westminster Street, Free And Open To The Public. A collaborative effort between PPS and the Arts & Business Council of Rhode Island, the exhibit is a unique way to present preservation advocacy through fine art. Providence Art Windows

Opening Reception September 18, 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Exhibit Runs Through November 21, Begins At Design Within Reach, 210 Westminster Street, Free And Open To The Public. The art installed in ten windows in Downtown Providence creates a six-block loop that viewers can walk day or night. Celebrate Providence! At National Neighborhood Day

Manton Avenue Project Presents: Egad! Look At The Time! The Running Late Plays

9th Annual Street Painting Festival

September 27, 11am - 10pm, Bank of America Skating Center, Free And Open To The Public. A celebration of art and artists in Providence, where businesses and individuals come together to donate time, money, and talent to benefit charitable causes focused on children and youth in the Providence area. Approximately 300 professional and amateur artists from New England will create 165 works of art on the surface and walkways of the Skating Center. For more information please click here.

Call To Galleries And Fine Art Stores. The City of Providence's Department of Art, Culture + Tourism is in the process of revamping their web site. One of the key new features is the addition of an interactive Gallery/Fine Art guide. RI Foundation Arts In Academics Grant. This fund supports educational projects that integrate art disciplines into other core academic subjects to benefit Rhode Island public school students. Photos Sought for WBNA 2009 Calendar/Exhibit. The WBNA (West Broadway Neighborhood Association) invites photographers, both amateur and professional, to submit black & white photographs to be included in their upcoming What Makes Our Neighborhood Great exhibit and calendar. FirstWorks Call To Musicians. It's not too late to participate in the community event of the season! Perform Terry Riley's In C at the FirstWorks Festival. RISCA Call For Art. The Rhode Island State Council On the Arts is pleased to announce a new call for public art for all visual artists at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in downtown Providence. Open Call To Child Actors. Trinity Repertory Company will be holding an open call for child actors on Saturday, September 27, from 9am to 1pm at Cardi's Furniture Superstore (Route 1A, South Attleboro, MA) for its 32nd annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, directed by Liesl Tommy. Children ages 8-12 are welcome to audition, although children who turn 13 before December 31, 2008, are not eligible. The Steel Yard Fall 2008 Community Courses Are Now Online. They have plenty of new courses to offer: Welding in a Week, Industrial Casting Techniques for the Kitchen, and more!
