Call For Volunteers. Bright Night Providence, RI's largest New Year's Eve Celebration, is seeking over 100 volunteers to help make this year's New Year's Eve Celebration safe and fun for everyone. Volunteers will work 3-4 hour shifts on New Year's Eve, giving information to patrons, checking wristbands, putting up posters and doing other work to make sure that the festival runs smoothly. Also, limited opportunities for volunteering in the weeks before New Year's Eve and in the weeks after the festival are available. Call For Entries: Letters About Literature. The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores and in cooperation with affiliate state centers for the book, invites readers in grades 4 through 12 to enter Letters About Literature, a national reading-writing contest. To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author explaining how that author's work changed the reader's way of thinking about the world or themselves. The deadline is December 6.
