Celebrate Providence! 2009 Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative Proposals Now Being Accepted
The Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative awards funds to non-profit organizations to create and perform high quality programs designed to respond to the unique characteristics of neighborhoods and foster a sense of community pride. Organizations interested in participating must be located in Providence to be eligible for the grants and the programming must take place in the neighborhoods and public spaces of Providence between July 1 and September 1, 2009. Funding will range from $500 to $4000 per project and only one proposal will be accepted from an organization. Applications must be sent to the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism at Providence City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street, Room 111, by January 30 at 4 p.m. To download an application please click here.

The Providence Public Library will hold its first annual Rhode Island Self-published Author Fair on March 1 from 2pm - 4:30pm at the Central Library on 150 Empire Street. Rhode Island authors who have self published a fiction or non-fiction novel within the last three years are encouraged to apply by mailing or hand-delivering a review copy of their most recent book along with reviews, letters of reference and publicity for that book by February 6. Applications must also contain a cover letter, which includes the author's contact information and library card number. Review copies will not be returned. New England artists are encouraged to submit recent and original works for the 11th Annual Fidelity Investments Green Works Juried Art Exhibition by Friday, January 23, 2009. The exhibit will feature selected works constructed of renewable, repurposed or recycled materials on display at the Providence Art Club, the nation's second oldest art institution, from March 8 to March 27. Photographs and drawings are sought from kids and professional artists alike across the Ocean State to support June's Year of Science theme: Oceans & Water. They are seeking artistic works that show us what a day without the ocean would be like. Selected photos will appear on a rotating basis on June's Year of Science Ocean and Water website. Please send a digital image (photograph or scanned drawing) and caption explaining your thoughts, and include a caption no longer than 80 words, your name, and your grade or occupation with your submission. The LunaFest Film Festival is looking for one local female filmmaker to fill the final short film slot of the reel of this year's LunaFest films. From amateur filmmakers, to film students, to aspiring indie stars, they look for filmmakers and producers with unique films by...for...about women. Deadline for submission is January 30. Trinity Repertory Company's Young Actors Summer Institute Now Enrolling
For the fifth summer, Trinity Rep will open its doors for boys and girls in grades 5-12 to explore a world of creativity and theater under the instruction of RI's most knowledgeable theater professionals with the Young Actors Summer Institute. The Summer Institute offers students a challenging five weeks of study in the fields of acting, playwriting, dance and much more.
