Aspire Resturant, located in the center of the arts and theater district of downtown Providence is hosting a contest to redesign the cover of their menu. The artwork needs to be the work of a locally based artisit and must have a Providence-inspired theme. The winning design will be chosen by a panel of Providence art enthusiasts, promoters and students by May 1st. The winner will receive a $500.00 cash prize, as well as a bio of the artisit on the inside cover of the menu! M+D+F 2009 is a juried exhibition to uncover and promote innovative modern furniture by emerging designers in the Northeast. Organized by the Design Within Reach Providence Studio and juried by local creative professionals in the design, architecture and art worlds, M+D+F provides an opportunity for peer, public and professional recognition for up-and-coming designers and firms. Photographs and drawings are sought from kids and professional artists alike across the Ocean State to support the Year of Science theme for the month of June: Oceans & Water. They are seeking artistic works that show us what a day without the ocean would be like. Selected photos will appear on a rotating basis on June’s Year of Science Ocean and Water website. Please send a digital image (photograph or scanned drawing) and caption explaining your thoughts, and include a caption no longer than 80 words, your name, and your grade or occupation with your submission. Tom Roberts Prize For Creative Achievement In The Humanities Accepting Nominations
The Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH) is inviting nominations for the 2009 recipient of its prestigious Tom Roberts Prize for Creative Achievement in the Humanities (named for RICH’s founding director). The honor is awarded annually at RICH’s Celebration of the Humanities event to an individual or group whose work demonstrates an inventive and innovative approach to traditional humanities fields of study. The $2,000 prize is made possible through an endowed fund, which was established in 2001 by council board members. The deadline for nominations is April 13. Camp Broadway’s National Tour at Providence Performing Arts Center Now Enrolling
Camp Broadway, a week-long day camp for theatre-loving kids, celebrates its 10th anniversary at PPAC this August 10-14, and registrations are now being accepted. Activities take place Monday-Friday from 9:00a to 5:00p, and include five days of singing, dancing, acting, master classes, a “Salute to Singin’ and Dancin’ Kids” luncheon with guest speakers, and a backstage tour of the Providence Performing Arts Center. The week culminates with a Campers’ performance on the PPAC stage for family and friends on Friday afternoon. Paid registrations are limited to 90 children ages 10-17 by August 1, 2009, and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Ten full scholarships for each week will be awarded in late spring to children on a non-competitive basis. Applications are available by clicking here.
Trinity Repertory Company's Young Actors Summer Institute Now Enrolling
For the fifth summer, Trinity Rep will open its doors for boys and girls in grades 5-12 to explore a world of creativity and theater under the instruction of RI's most knowledgeable theater professionals with the Young Actors Summer Institute. The Summer Institute offers students a challenging five weeks of study in the fields of acting, playwriting, dance and much more. Located on 91 Hartford Avenue in Olneyville, this is one of the few existing mill buildings presently being redeveloped for smaller industrial uses. Spaces in this mill start at 668 sq ft and are typically in the 2500 sq ft to 4000 sq ft range. All the units are upgraded with a new 60 amp service and additional electric is available as well as gas and water for processing.
