New Urban Arts, an interdisciplinary arts studio and gallery for high school students and emerging artists in Providence that empowers young artists to explore the visual, performing and literary arts through yearlong free out-of-school programs, is being nationally recognized as one of 15 youth arts and humanities programs to receive the prestigious 2009 Coming Up Taller Award from First Lady Michelle Obama.  For more information please click here.

Call For Musicians & Filmmakers
Ben Allison is inviting musicians and film makers to submit their own musical rendition and/or visual interpretation of one of several selected tunes from this new CD. Instrumentalists, vocalists, producers and film makers are welcome to participate. The idea is to create an online community, bringing wider attention to the kind of creative artists Ben meets and hears during his travels throughout the world.  In a few short months, Ben will choose the top 3 submissions from both camps (3 musicians, 3 filmmakers). The RI Center for the Book at the Providence Public Library invites all RI students in grades 4 - 12 to enter the national Letters About Literature contest with a national prize of a $10,000 grant for their local school or community library.  The deadline to submit is December 12. Call For Female Artists
The Hive is collecting hundreds of self-portraits by women and girls. These portraits will be hung in a floor-to-ceiling installation, with a goal of representing and celebrating a diverse community of women working together as a whole. In Your Face will be on display at the Eco-Office at 28 Wolcott Street in Providence for a special one-night-only celebration on Gallery Night in January (Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 5-8pm).  In Your Face is an unjuried exhibition and is open to ALL women and girls, artists and non-artists.
