Providence Children's Museum has opened Discovery Studio, a vibrant new space for open-ended art and science exploration, where rotating activities will inspire children's discovery, imaginative play and creative expression.
Each week, families will delve into a different theme with multiple activity stations and an intriguing selection of materials. Children will use magnifying glasses to examine natural objects, investigate sand and water, explore the art and science of light and color, and much more. Challenges and imaginative ideas for further exploration will foster kids' creativity, encouraging them to use their imaginations, experiment with new ideas and forms of expression, and develop and test their own theories.
Part art studio and part nature lab, Discovery Studio's beautiful environment is designed to inspire wonder, surrounding visitors with children's work and artful objects - shells, prisms, gears and living things - plus earthy colors and abundant natural light, creating a relaxed yet stimulating atmosphere.
Discovery Studio will also help Providence Children's Museum raise awareness about the importance of creative play for children's healthy development. "We need to nurture childhood creativity and ensure it extends into adulthood," said Museum Executive Director Janice O'Donnell. "One important way to do this is to provide plenty of opportunities for open-ended play and exploration. Discovery Studio is designed to do just that." A selection of parent resources and take-home materials will encourage families to make time for imaginative exploration at home.
Individuals can contribute to the Museum's Thrive Drive to support the creation of Discovery Studio.
