Spring Forward...Think Back With The RI Historical Society

On April 27th the Rhode Island Historical Society will host Spring Forward…Think Back to RIHS's Silver Screen, a special fundraiser featuring silent films from the golden age of filmmaking in Rhode Island in the 1910s and 1920s.

Some films on view include Partners of the Tide from 1915, an action adventure complete with explosions, danger at sea, and love; and My Lady of the Lilacs from 1916, a romantic drama following an impoverished painter who falls in love with his model and competes for her love with a wealthy art collector. There will also be fascinating newsreel footage of the construction and opening of the Mount Hope Bridge in 1920, and early films promoting tourism in the Ocean State.

Some of the regions finest caterers are donating food stations for the event. Pranzi Catering is making seafood risotto; Fine Catering by Russell Morin is creating a tri-color stuffed pepper station; Guy Abelson Events a Mediterranean mezze table, Pepper's Fine Catering a chef-active Thai food station, and Simply Devine Catering is making divine lobster bisque with hand-made crackers. The Cupcakerie is serving an assortment of gourmet mini cupcakes.

There will be champagne cocktails, local wine, and beer served, and theater students from Brown University portraying a starlet and a movie producer will also be on hand. Dress is casual for this festive event.
