The Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission is currently reevaluating the Rhode Island State Preservation Plan in accordance with the federal guidelines for state historic preservation offices. The RIHP&HC staff is reviewing the State Preservation Plan and assessing the need for revision or amendment to it.
The State Plan is used by the RIHP&HC and others throughout the State to help them guide effective decision-making on a general level, coordinate statewide preservation activities, and communicate statewide preservation policy, goals, and values to the preservation community, decision-makers, and interested and affected parties across Rhode Island. It is intended to express a vision for historic preservation in the State as a whole and outline future directions for the State Historic Preservation Office; it is not designed to serve as a detailed blueprint for making place-specific or resource-specific decisions.
The development and maintenance of the State Plan depend on input from the public, professional members of the preservation community and from representatives of public agencies at the Federal, State, and local levels. Consequently, they are soliciting your input in the reevaluation process. They received a wealth of valuable information and feedback from the preservation summits that we convened as part of Preservation Is Local in 2009 and 2010, and they are very interested in obtaining the benefit of further insights and ideas for shaping our preservation goals for the future.
