Councilman Joseph DeLuca
Ward 6 - Biography






Joseph DeLuca was born in Panni, Italy, a small mountaintop town in 1948. He moved with his parents, two brothers and a sister to the U.S. at age 10. They settled in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Providence, where DeLuca has lived ever since.

Councilman DeLuca was elected in 1991 and re-elected in 1994,1998 and 2002 to represent Ward 6 of Providence. A self-employed contractor, DeLuca is very active in his community. He is a youth athletic coach for football and wrestling; he supports several community crime watch groups; and he sponsors the annual Easter Egg Hunt and annual Community Picnic. As a council member, DeLuca comments that he is committed to "mastering the Providence City Charter and all the laws of the City."

He currently serves as the following:

·         Member, Committee on City Property

·         Member, Committee on Urban Redevelopment, Renewal and Planning

 

In addition, he formerly served as:

·         Member, Water Supply Board

·          Treasurer, P.R.O.C.A.P. Board of Directors

·         Chairman, Vietnam-Era Veterans Association

 

Councilman DeLuca graduated from Central High School and served in the U.S. Army, receiving a Bronze Star and several campaign service medals. As a civilian he studied engineering for several years before taking a job as an adolescent substance abuse counselor. He became certified in substance abuse counseling and worked in the profession for 14 years.

Councilman DeLuca enjoys chess, darts, football and gardening, and lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife Leslie and their three children.
