Councilman Leon F. Tejada
Ward 8 - Biography

Councilman Leon Tejada was born in the village of Juan Lopez, near the city of Moca, Dominican Republic, and moved to Providence with his family nearly twenty years ago, settling in the West End.  With a bachelors degree in computer programming from the Pontifica Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic, Councilman Tejada worked for several Rhode Island technology firms before opening his own business, El Centro, Inc., providing accounting, income tax preparation and business consulting services in the city’s West End.

In 2000 he was elected to the Rhode Island State Legislature, where he served two terms.  He was elected to the Providence City Council in 2006 to represent the Reservoir, South Elmwood and West End neighborhoods.  He lives at 17 Potter Drive.

With three neighborhoods representing a cross-section of the city’s diverse demographic, Ward Eight presents a host of challenges and opportunities that Councilman Tejada is eager to work on while engaging residents and local businesses in the decision-making process.
