SUMMARY: Works under the general guidance of the Senior Manager - Information Systems to plan, install, upgrade and maintain database software and perform any related database administration tasks. The Database Manager works with the MIS staff in formulating policies, long range planning and coordinating of all activities related to database administration, data acquisition, and computer generated reporting. The Database Manager must have excellent analytical, programming and communication skills.

DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES:
NOTE: The following are typical examples of daily tasks, but this section is not all inclusive, nor shall it restrict the supervisor in the assignment of tasks.
1. Monitor database performance and tune where appropriate. Supervise database backup procedures and enhance where appropriate. Implement security procedures to guarantee data integrity.
2. Participate in the development of long range systems plans in coordination with the various division heads, to meet the database needs of the PWSB. Recommend and implement courses of action to achieve the goals of the agency in areas utilizing computerized systems.
3. Review and analyze hardware and software request and recommend specific systems solutions. Modify, test and Install, upgrade and test software when needed.
4. Schedule, assign and oversee work of subordinate staff in data processing area.
5. Establish performance standards for subordinate employees and take corrective measures to implement those standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor Degree in Computer Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering or Mathematics with considerable course work in computer related subjects is required.
2. Seven to ten years of experience in a network environment performing database administration duties including but not limited to database design, maintenance and performance tuning.
3. Five years or more experience specific to Oracle.
4. Experience with network operating systems required. UNIX/Linux preferred.
5. Proficient oral and written communication skills required.
6. Knowledge of the information needs of a municipally owned water utility, including knowledge of computer based process control systems and experience with water utility applications preferred.
7. Experience with data manipulation on various computer platforms including UNIX/Linux preferred.
8. Experience with Java programming preferred.
