Pension Administrator

The City of Providence is seeking a Pension Administrator. The Pension Administrator reports to the City Controller and is responsible for the efficient administration of the pension benefits to all City of Providence employees in accordance with the City of Providence Retirement Act.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 
• Manages and oversees the City of Providence Retirement System.
• Implements retirement law in accordance with governing statutes, rules and regulations.
• Responsible for the timely administration of the pension payroll and retirees’ health benefits.
• Attends and fully participates in monthly Investment Portfolio Committee Meetings.
• Prepares reports and agendas for monthly Retirement Board meetings.
• Communicates Retirement Board decisions.
• Reviews and analyzes the investment portfolio on a monthly basis for activity consistent with Board authorization; Reports findings.
• Exercises management and supervision over staff engaged in accounting functions, records
• maintenance, payment processing, automated client records systems, statistical reporting and
• explanation, and interpretation of benefit programs.
• Effectively communicates objectives and delegates responsibilities to subordinates.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with City officials, employees, retirees, and Retirement Board members.

Minimum Qualifications: 

 
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting and business administration.
• Working knowledge of benefit plans, actuarial funding methods, retirement counseling, and financial reporting.
• Minimum of three (3) years management experience.
• Ability to utilize the Department’s computer systems and applicable software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

We are looking for a knowledgeable, team- player with effective communication skills, who works well under pressure. The ideal candidate has significant experience in pension administration, health benefit programs and retirement rules and regulations.  Experience working with a union workforce is a plus.
