SENIOR RETIREMENT DIV CLERK

Summary

New hires shall be compensated at a wage rate of fifteen percent (15%) below the contractual rate for the period of July 1, 2011 to July 1, 2014. Wages for new employees shall be increased in five percent (5%) increments annually until July 1, 2014 and on this date the new employees shall receive the full contractual rate.

Under supervision of up-line personnel performs varied and responsible clerical work in the Retirement Office.


Duties & Responsibilities



1. Prepares and computes monthly retirement payrolls including all related deductions (i.e. Health Insurance, Federal and State taxes, Union dues, etc.), additions, deletions, and adjusting entries for final approval by Pension Administrator.

2. Prepares and computes withdrawals and Option IVs respectively for final approval by Pension Administrator.

3. Prepares and calculates loan applications, determines active member eligibility and, when applicable, prepares and processes loan insurance for final approval by Pension Administrator.

4. Prepares and calculates estimates, all retirement claims, and actuary computation for final approval by Pension Administrator and calculates deficiencies.

5. Prepares and calculates all purchase of credit-able service for final approval by Pension Administrator.

6. Reconciles the Annuity-Savings and the loan reports, respectively, on a weekly, monthly, and/or annual basis and prepares additions, deletions, and adjusting entries where necessary.

7. Provides the actuary with financial and statistical information/data necessary to complete the Annual Report.

8. Researches and supplies data to Consulting Firm regarding medical insurance packages.

9. Compiles and provides medical data for every Accidental Disability Applicant and coordinates information with various City Departments.

10. Implements Health Care Plans, including, but not limited to, Blue Chip and First Seniority.

11. Implements multi-level COLAs.

12. Coordinates with the State of Rhode Island Department of Rehabilitative Services regarding health care benefits.

13. Coordinate with Medical Management Unit of Blue Cross regarding retiree?s personnel and medical prognosis.

14. Performs administrative duties including, but not limited to, verification of daily obituary notices and maintenance of all status changes, preparation of monthly agenda for Retirement Board meetings, and scheduling of all doctors? appointments for disabilities, etc.

15. Performs various clerical duties including, but not limited to, typing, filing, copying, mailing, counter attendance, and payroll as requested by the Pension Administrator.

16. Performs other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

1. High school graduate or equivalent.

2. Clerical experience is required; some experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting is preferred.

3. Successful completion of Computer Training Level III course within six (6) months of appointment.

4. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
