Summary

New hires shall be compensated at a wage rate of fifteen percent (15%) below the contractual rate for the period of July 1, 2011 to July 1, 2014. Wages for new employees shall be increased in five percent (5%) increments annually until July 1, 2014 and on this date the new employees shall receive the full contractual rate.

Under the supervision of up-line personnel is responsible for scheduling daily work and organizing and implementing the required tasks, equipment, and materials necessary for grounds and turf maintenance and forest management at the source of supply and related facilities of Providence water while ensuring compliance with all relevant practices, procedures, rules, regulations, ordinances and state and federal laws; and related work as required.


Duties & Responsibilities



1. Schedules, implements, and participates in daily tasks; organizes the assigned tasks by determining priority of the assignment.

2. Maintains and controls inventory of all equipment, tools, and supplies.

3. Ensures compliance with safety practices and procedures.

4. Accurately prepares and completes all work orders.

5. Acts as lead person on each crew as well as being required to operate independently and perform manual work as directed by up-line personnel.

6. Operates a wide variety of heavy-duty commercial rotary mowers, turf tractors, and specialized equipment capable of mowing turf-covered slopes up to 40 degrees.

7. Operates various complex automotive and other equipment including, but not limited to, backhoes, logging equipment, tractors, snow plows, heavy dump body type trucks, and large trucks with trailer towing capabilities.

8. Performs pre-trip and post-trip preventative maintenance checks and inspections. Makes minor operator and preventative maintenance repairs and services equipment.

9. Performs inventory check of all tools and equipment stored on vehicle.

10. Cleans vehicle daily.

11. Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools.

12. Performs arduous tasks often under adverse conditions.

13. May be required to work a non-standard workweek.

14. Performs other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

 

1. High school graduate or equivalent.

2. Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License.

3. Must possess and maintain a valid State Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with airbrake endorsement.

4. Must possess and maintain a valid State Hoisting Engineer’s Backhoe/Payloader License.

5. Must obtain a Pesticide License within one (1) year of appointment.

6. Certifications, where available, and knowledge of safety regulations including First Aid/CPR, MSDS, road safety, flagging, personal protective equipment, and chain saw safety.

7. Extensive knowledge and experience with the operation of heavy-duty commercial rotary mowers and turf tractors; ability to operate equipment on turf-covered sloped up to 40 degrees.

8. Skill and knowledge in the operation of all tools and equipment required to perform ground and turf maintenance and forest culture activities including, but not limited to, backhoes, forestry logging equipment and tractors, snow plowing equipment, heavy dump trucks and large trucks with towing capacity, and basic hand tools.

9. Cannot exceed a weight limit of 250 pounds in order to meet manufacturer’s requirements for safe operation of equipment.

10. Proficiency in basic mathematics.

11. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both verbally and in writing, with crewmembers, supervisory staff, and the general public.

12. Ability to act as lead man on a crew, effectively performing work while establishing a working relationship with other employees; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates

13. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job often under adverse weather conditions.

**NOTE:  The term "Limited" means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time.  The position may or may not be permanent.
