As of July 5, parking on metered spots in Providence will cost $1.25 an hour or 25 cents for every 12 minutes. In addition to the rate increase, all 15-minute parking spots will be converted to 30-minute parking at 75 cents for the half hour maximum time limit. Changes in rates will apply to all 1,200 single-pole meters and 25 multi-space meters throughout the Capital City.
Parking rates in the City of Providence have remained at $1 an hour for the past eight years. The 25-cent increase matches Boston's current parking rates, which also went up to $1.25 an hour earlier this year.
No Quarters? No Problem!
Early this month, city officials also unveiled the new ProvPass smart card, making it easier for drivers to pay for parking without the need to carry quarters in their pockets. ProvPass is available in $10 and $20 denominations. Users swipe the card in the meter when they arrive and when they leave. The meter calculates the amount of time used and deducts the appropriate amount from the card.
The ProvPass, which is available for $10 and $20, can now be purchased in Providence City Hall at the Tax Collector's Office, room 203, the Board of Licenses, room 101, the Municipal Court at the Public Safety Complex, 325 Washington Street, at the Traffic Engineer's Office, 60 Ernest Street, and at AAA's downtown Providence branch office at 55 Dorrance Street.

Please check out posted signs when you park in Providence to avoid being ticketed! The City of Providence has stepped up enforcement of its parking laws and is now issuing tickets to vehicles parked at expired parking meters or those that exceed posted curbside parking from Monday to Saturday, 8AM to 6PM.
Posted one- and two-hour parking limits are also being enforced and drivers need to 'feed the meter' during the enforcement time posted on signs.
