RIDOT Community Update: Providence Viaduct

From June 23?29, 2013, the following operations will be in effect:

Night Work

• Installing light foundations for the new highway lighting on I?95 SB between Exits 21 (Atwells
  Avenue) and Exit 20 (Iway).

Day Work

• Crews will install the testing equipment to perform the two steel H pile load tests.
• Crews will begin installing electrical conduit and bases for highway lighting.
• Demolition of a portion of the bridge on Exit 22 B (Route 6) from I?95 SB. Demolition is in preparation of widening that exit ramp to Routes 6/10.

Lane Closures

• Sunday -Wednesday Nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day: Right lane closed on I?95 SB from Exit 23 (Route 146) to Exit 20 (Iway). The on?ramp from Routes 6/10 EB will also be narrowed, but will remain open.
• Wednesday?Thursday Nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day: Right lane closed on I?95 NB from Exit 20 (Point St.) to the Civic Center interchange.
• Monday?Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Right lane closed on Promenade Street between Providence Place and Holden Street.

Looking Ahead

Highway lighting installation; Drainage installation at Providence Place; Excavation of the slope that faces the Foundry Building; Pile Driving at the north end of the project (Promenade Street).
