Welcome to the new City of Providence Emergency Management Agency website, an invaluable information source that will help make you, your family and your neighbors safer and better equipped to deal with an emergency.
I am pleased to tell you the City has been working to fully prepare our community for a wide range of natural and man-made hazards. We have created an Emergency Advisory Board and Crisis Action Team to ensure that City leadership remains apprised, aware and ahead of developing situations. We have also opened our new Emergency Operating Center which provides critical public services and emergency assistance to you, if a disaster occurs. We have created new programs such as the Greater Providence Metropolitan Medical Response System (GP-MMRS) and Emergency Volunteer Services (EVS). We also continue to train and conduct exercises on wide-range of topics and hazards. This website will provide you will helpful tips you need on how to cope with a disaster. We also have useful links to more detailed information on different types of hazards - and how best to prepare.
Although the City can respond to disasters as they occur, you are the best resource for preparing your family. Use the information we have outlined on how to create an emergency kit and an emergency plan to prepare your loved ones for the unexpected, and to stay safe.
Most recently we have created the Ready Providence campaign that is designed to educate and empower city residents to prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks. The Ready Providence campaign asks individuals to do three key things to prepare for the unexpected: get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, and be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses.
Be prepared. Stay calm. Share this information with loved ones and neighbors, look out for one another, and stay safe.
