PROVIDENCE - "This generous donation will go a long way towards supporting our efforts to provide the best care possible for our animals," said Mayor David N. Cicilline as he presented a $223,670 check to Providence Animal Control Director David Holden. The late Robert Genereux, who loved animals, donated the money to the shelter as part of his estate.
"The City of Providence is incredibly thankful for Mr. Genereux's kind generosity," said Mayor Cicilline. "This gift is an example of the type of civic engagement and compassion that makes our community so great."
Genereux, a lifelong resident of Pawtucket, was said to have been a hard worker who lived a quiet life. Director Holden recalls having conservations with Genereux over the years in Holden's former position with the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
