Providence's Furry Friends Give Two Paws Up for $12,200 in Donated Supplies

Thanks to Sam's Club and a generous donor, the Friends of Providence Animal Control receives shipment of dog and cat food and blankets made from recycled materials

PROVIDENCE - Providence Animal Control director Dave Holden is grateful today for being at the receiving end of two generous gifts valued at $12,200 in in-kind donations to the city's shelter.

Sam's Club, which is closing its Warwick Store off Bald Hill Road, donated $10,000 worth of top-shelf dried and canned goods. The donation will help to feed all the cats and dogs that are currently being cared for at Animal Control's new location on 200 Terminal Road, until they're adopted.

Meanwhile, a generous donation was also made by a dog-lover based in Brooklyn, New York, who read about all the good deeds happening at the city's shelter thanks to a post made by a shelter volunteer, Ms. Heather Gutshall, on Facebook. The donor, Ms. Lisa Gassman, shipped fifty washable West Paw dog beds made from 100% recycled plastic bottles to Providence. The value of the beds is $2,200.
