Thanks to a successful fund-raiser last month and a generous contribution by Dr. Donald Deignan, the once dingy and damaged portrait of former Mayor Edwin McGuinness has been restored.

McGuinness, the city's first Irish-Catholic mayor, served as mayor from 1896-1898. Arts conservator Alice Miles carried out the restoration from a studio work area set up on the 5th floor here at City Hall. She has begun work on another mayoral portrait and the public is invited to see her at work and ask her questions.
