New Exhibit at City Hall Begins 375th City Anniversary Celebration

May 4, 2011

A new exhibit, "Capital Ideas: Planning Providence 1636-2020", kicks off Providence's 375th birthday celebration. Curated by Brown University students in partnership with the John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage, the City Archives, and the Department of Art, Culture, and Tourism, the exhibit utilizes historical photographs, maps, plans, and architectural renderings to visualize the Providence that might have been--visions of Providence imagined and designed by planners and city officials but never realized. As part of the exhibit, public programs will encourage participants to imagine new alternatives for their city.

The exhibit opens on May 4th and runs through June 22nd at the 2nd floor gallery, Providence City Hall. Admission is free. For more information call the Tourism office at 421-7740, extension 714.
