Police Investigate Their History
Providence Police Captain John Glancy (retired 2003 on the left) and Detective George Pearson (retired 2004) have begun work on a pictorial history of the Providence Police Department to be published next year as part of the department's 150th anniversary celebration.
Pearson and Glancy have spent a number of years collecting police department memorabilia and assembling the police archives. They have begun the task of selecting about 150 photos to be used in the department's history
from thousands of photos in the police archives, the Providence Journal archives, private collections and other repositories. They have set up shop here at the city archives and staff will offer assistance in scanning photos selected for the book.
If you have historical Providence Police photos for possible inclusion in the history or wish to reserve a copy of the book (scheduled for release summer 2014) please contact Paul Campbell, archivist.
