As a result of the redistricting plan recently approved by the Providence City Council, the Providence Board of Canvassers will mail a postcard to each registered voter in the City in the upcoming week. The postcard will list the voting precinct, council ward and local representative information pertinent to the residence.
Voters are asked to carefully note their assigned polling places as some locations have changed since the last election. In addition to redrawing ward and precinct lines, the Rhode Island State General Assembly recently approved a plan to reduce the number of voting precincts citywide from 89 to 78. Local voting precincts, as well as state and federal legislative districts, are adjusted every ten years to accommodate each Federal Census.
Registered voters may also view their personal voter information including voting status, council ward, polling place, state and federal districts, and elected officials at http://sos.ri.gov/vic/.
Voters are also requested to verify their personal information listed on the postcard. If any of your voting information has changed since the last election, please visit http://www.elections.ri.gov/voting/registration.php to print a voter registration form or stop by the Office of the Board of Canvassers located on the first floor of City Hall. After completing the form with your updated information, mail or deliver it to the Providence Board of Canvassers.
Voters who have moved out of Providence should also inform the board in writing.
For further inquiries, please call the Board of Canvassers at 401-421-0495. The Board of Canvassers is located in Room 102 of City Hall at 25 Dorrance Street.
