Docent Tours

Tours must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance and can be scheduled by calling Lesley Lambert, Office Administrator of the Botanical Center at 401-680-7250.

Information of Docent Guided Tours:

Thank you for your interest in the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center. It is a great place to see and learn about tropical plants and their habitat.

Docent Tours are led by trained volunteers. Each tour is tailored according to age and group interest in regards to the Botanical Center's unique environments. Tours provide cultural and environmental information about the plants, their uses and importance in the lives of humans, their unusual and highly varied physical characteristics, and information on how they have adapted to the climates in which they naturally exist.

We are also happy to do specialized tours for school groups, youth groups, senior senters, and Scout groups. Some of the particular topics our Docent guides enjoy presenting about include:

  • General tour and history of the Botanical Center its greenhouses and the Park;
  • Basic botany: elementary through college (content depending on age level);
  • Medicinal plants;
  • The love life of plants;
  • How American Plants Transformed English Gardens; and
  • Mexican Plants we couldn't do without

Our All About Plants! Tour is designed for elementary school children and follows the Next Generation Science Standards and STEAM curriculum for teaching botany through hands-on activities.

Please fill out a Docent Tour Request Form and email it to Lesley Lambert at
