Mayor Taveras helped launch the opening of one of the city's newest business additions - a 6,000 s/f Family Dollar store, on 921 Manton Avenue - on this busy pre-holiday weekend. Nearly 50 customers, store employees and executives gathered for the official ribbon-cutting. "This store is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, creating 20 jobs for area residents, and needed services to our elderly, students and customers from Manton and beyond." The Mayor noted the store filled a void in the area, where once a vacant video business and former school were located, and welcomed their community involvement.
On hand for the grand opening were Rob Thrul, district manager of Family Dollar stores; Denise Chauvin, Store Manager; Councilman Michael Correia, District Commander Patrick Reddy, Providence Police Department, and Ozzie Kooloian, property owner and his wife, and radio station B101.
The management team said early response has been heartening. "We have been very busy since opening, and customers have expressed real excitement about the new store, which opened November 23rd particularly because of the extended hours of operation and the wide variety of products," said Manager Chauvin.
Family Dollar has 7000 stores nationwide, 25 in Rhode Island and 7 in Providence. The Manton location is open Monday through Saturday 8 am to 9 pm, and Sunday 9 am to 9 pm. For more information, visit www.familydollar.com.
