Hundreds Turn Out For Mayors' Job Fair On Hospitality & Tourism

Providence - More than 300 area residents turned out on Wednesday, May 15th, for the Mayors' Job Fair on Hospitality and Tourism, held at the Roger Williams Park Casino on Elmwood Avenue.

The event - the fourth in a series of free monthly job fairs - was hosted by the Mayor Angel Taveras and Mayor Allan Fung, Workforce Solutions of Providence and Cranston and the RI Department of Labor and Training. The series was launched earlier this year, targeting specific industries, in an effort to help local unemployed residents find work. Late last month, the Mayors co-hosted a Job Fair for the Military and Veterans and their families, along with a roundtable discussion on the issue of unemployment, with national experts and Senator Jack Reed.

"We are pleased to be able to offer these free job fairs, to do whatever we can to align great workers with solid job opportunities," said Mayor Taveras. "We must do all we can to be sure residents know about and take full advantage of resources available in our community."

At the 3-hour job fair, twenty-seven companies were represented, each of which were hiring for open and available positions. Among those hiring were: Best Western Providence, Castle Hill Inn, Collette Vacations, Hilton Hotel, Hotel Viking, Luigi's Gormet Express and Restaurant, the Marriott Providence, Newport Restaurant Group, NYLO, Panera, Pappa Razzi, Providence Biltmore, Sam's Clubs, U.S. Foods and others.

Next Job Fair: "Education"
Tuesday, June 11th
12pm - 3pm
