Customers, friends and family were treated to a special reception with Mayor Angel Taveras and television celebrity Nick Arrojo, who was in town at Seiren Salon, for the inaugural launch of his hair product line in Rhode Island.
Mayor Taveras, who came to welcome the star of TV's What Not to Wear, and to greet owners Stephanie and Chris Lisi, congratulated the team on building a successful salon in their downtown setting. and noted the exceptional work of off-duty firefighters in making the basement setting on Chestnut Street a truly inviting site.
Arrojo shared his challenges with the 50 guests, about pursuing his dream of small business ownership. Coming to the United States from a humble start in England, with little more than a dream and $1500 in his pocket, he opened his first hair salon in Manhattan on September 4, 2001, just 1 week and several blocks from the World Trade Center. On September 11th, he shared a national tragedy and became more devoted to his pursuing a dream of business success.
His perseverance paid off: in little more than a decade, he grew that small sum to a $10 million plus empire.
The Mayor applauded Arrojo on his efforts and his interest in Providence, and suggested the actor might want to consider moving his operations to Providence in the near future - given the great quality of life the capital city enjoys. Arrojo laughed and said "anything is possible!"
