Emergency Medical Service Week
The week of May 19th is Emergency Medical Service week. The Providence Fire Department is proud to recognize its licensed Emergency Medical Technicians and first responders during this week. In 2012, the Providence Fire Department responded to over 32,000 calls for emergency medical service. In all of these calls, emergency medical service was delivered with compassion and professionalism to the people who live and work in Providence by members of the Providence Fire Department.
In 2012, the Department instituted a policy of triaging calls for service. This policy has dramatically reduced the need for out-of-town Rescues and increased the availability of Rescues for City emergencies. This policy has been carried out by the men and women of the Providence Fire Department and our partners in the City's Department of Communications. The success of this policy is due to the dedication and professionalism of our members.
We are especially proud of our partnership with local hospitals, shelters, and community health centers. The feedback they have provided to our Emergency Medical Technicians has allowed us to improve our service delivery and save lives.
This week, it is especially important to recognize the difficult and important work that is done every day by our Emergency Medical Technicians on behalf of the citizens of Providence, whose safety is our main concern.
