Gondola - Photo by Richard Benjamin

The "Cynthia Julia" is Providence's first gondola and is believed to be the first truly authentic Venetian gondola ever built in the United States. It was commissioned to be built in Manchester, Massachusetts in May, 1996, and completed in October, 1996. The gondola's design is from the 19th century and is adorned with hand-sculpted ornaments and more than 250 feet of solid brass trim.

The "Cynthia Jacob", our second gondola, was constructed and shipped from Venice, Italy, in the spring of 1997, and is also adorned with hand-sculpted ornaments, over 250 feet of solid brass trim, and features a wooden carving of the American flag.

The gondolas are 36 feet in length and about 5 feet across at their widest points. They weigh approximately 2,000 pounds and seat up to six passengers. Each is powered by one man (the gondolier), and a 16 foot oar.

Enjoy a excursion along the Woonasquatucket and Providence Rivers. We can accommodate up to six passengers on each of our two gondolas. A complimentary basket of cheese and crackers, ice bucket and glasses are provided.

To complete the experience, Italian music is provided, or an accordion player is available upon request.

You are encouraged to speak with our special event consultant about planning your corporate party, anniversary, birthday, engagement, wedding, or simply a truly unique night out.

La Gondola can customize trips to accommodate larger parties.

A gondola trip is a great way to relax, and enjoy the revitalization of the City, river walks and waterfront parks. We invite you to see the sights of the City from a unique vantage point that captures the heart of Providence.

La Gondola has been featured in:

  • The television series Providence · New York Times · Wallstreet Journal
  • Rhode Island Monthly's "BEST" voted La Gondola
1997 - "Best Place to Bring a Visitor"
1998 - "Best Place to Pop the Question"
