"Groundbreaking Labor Contract Ratified October 19, 2004"
City and Local Union 1033 ratify historic labor contract!
Contract Highlights:
- Allows Departments to re-organize
- Allows for re-deployment of the workforce
- Allows for layoff to address lack of work/lack of funding
- Vacancies filled by minimum qualifications and seniority based on update of all City job descriptions
- Allows for re-assignment of employees with less than 5 years of seniority or less
- Provides departments the option to utilize flex hours
- Employees can be moved to interior cooler locations when the downtown temperature reaches 90 degrees instead of going home
- Implementation of "first-ever" Apprentice Program
- Floating Holiday now replaces RI Indepedence Day which effectively shut down City services when all other municipalities were open
- Number of Comp Time hours employees are able to accrue has been increased giving departments greater flexibility
- For the first time in history, employees will share in the cost of health insurance
- Healthcare plan for new hires has been changed to an HMO for the first time
- Retirees will pay co-share at the same rate as last day worked
- Fair wage increases over three years
- Levelling of City Public Fund Contribution
