City of Providence Opens Four Water Parks Today

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Special measure to accommodate children and families during another day of excessive heat.

With the National Weather Service predicting another day of dangerous heat today, Thursday, June 21, the Department of Parks & Recreation will open and operate four water parks today.

The following water parks will be open today from 10AM to 5PM:

• Richardson Street Park (Prairie Avenue in South Providence)
• Cabral Park (Wickenden Street in Fox Point)
• General Street Park (off Admiral Street in Wanskuck)
• Fargnoli Park (Smith Street near Academy Avenue in Elmhurst)

The Parks & Recreation Department will open and staff the water parks today, in advance of the scheduled opening of all City of Providence pools and water parks on July 2, as a special measure to accommodate children and families during a day of excessive heat.

The Salvation Army will again today operate a cooling station from 12-3PM in Kennedy Plaza across the street from Providence City Hall.

The City is still advising residents to take safety precautions during the excessive heat and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services will be available to residents to refer them to the resources they need. The Office of Neighborhood Services can be reached at 421-2489.

In addition, cooling centers and local libraries will provide shelter for residents looking to escape the heat.
