Mayor Angel Taveras, the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism and 95.5 WBRU are pleased to announce this summer's Friday Night Concert Series at Waterplace Park. All performances are free and open to the public and begin at 7:30pm.
This summer the City has again teamed up with 95.5 WBRU to bring some of the nations' best rising talent to the Waterplace Stage. The series will feature emerging alternative rock acts as well as some of the city's own talent. Seven dynamic acts will light up the stage at one of the city's most breathtaking parks from June 15 through July 20.
On June 15, the San Diego quintet Delta Spirit kicks off the series after performing on Bonnaroo's main stage. Years of non-stop touring has been distilled into a sound this band can truly call their own, and with the help of producer Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), tracks like the lead single, "California," and the infectious "Otherside" have catapulted them to the top spot on the Alternative New Artist and Heatseeker charts.
On June 22, enjoy the local flavor of Providence's music scene when the Silks, who have garnered a reputation as a band you must see live, take the stage at Waterplace Park before Tower and The Fool bring down the house with tracks from their debut album "How Long."
On June 29, the White Rabbits come to town in support of their new album, "Milk Famous." This Brooklyn-based band's combination of Midwestern roots and eclectic musical backgrounds garnered over a million hits on YouTube with their previous single "Percussion Gun."
On July 6, after high profile performances at Coachella, Bonnaroo and the Sasquatch Music Festival, the Los Angeles based quintet Grouplove comes to Waterplace. Their latest single, "Tounge Tied," currently resides at #3 on the US Alternative Rock charts.
On July 13, fresh off the heels of the release of their self-titled debut album, Walk the Moon promise to deliver a live performance worthy of the New York Post's claim that "this is a band you need to know…now."
On July 20, following one stellar performance after another during the 2012 WBRU Rock Hunt, the Rice Cakes close out the series after taking home the Rock Hunt crown.
