Downtown Providence to Go Red in Observance of World AIDS Day

The City of Providence will join cities across America illuminating downtown buildings in red lights in observance of World AIDS Day as part of (RED), an initiative to fight the AIDS pandemic in Africa. Downtown buildings will be illuminated in red on Monday, December 3 at 6PM.

To celebrate the lighting, the City's Healthy Communities Office will host a special program in observance of World AIDS Day on December 3 at 6PM on the 18th floor of the Providence Biltmore Hotel. The ceremony will comprise of presentations and performances including various community leaders and medical professionals.

The (RED) organization was founded by Bono of the Irish rock band U2 and Bobby Shriver. The organization's mission is to bring together consumers, the private sector and government to eliminate AIDS in Africa.
