Late last night Mayor Angel Taveras and Ward 13 City Councilman Bryan Principe toured the partially demolished Grove Street School to discuss the Fire Marshal's decision to condemn the building and pending actions to demolish the structure in advance of Hurricane Irene. Early this morning, engineers came to the site and upon consultation were able to propose a strategy for securing the building through the storm.
Serious issues remain with the building but officials believe that the structure can be temporarily secured. The Mayor approved of this decision this morning. The City will proceed with legal action against those who improperly damaged the historical structure and hope to swiftly resolve what has been a protracted and disappointing situation for the Broadway neighborhood.
