Join Mayor Angel Taveras for Providence's 375th Anniversary Celebration

Special performance by Deer Tick, Jeffrey Osborne and Area 401; Fireworks to kickoff Birthday Celebration.


Mayor Angel Taveras invites you to Hey Providence, It's Your Birthday! on Tuesday, November 22, from 6-10 PM at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC). The 375th birthday celebration will begin with a fireworks display at 6PM. A special live performance by platinum recording artist Jeffrey Osborne, known for his international hit "On the Wings of Love". Ticket holders will enjoy live performances by popular musicians: Deer Tick, Area 401, The Barr Brothers, The 'Mericans, the Extraordinary Rendition Band, and TropiGals.

AS220's Photographic Memory booth will provide memories of this milestone. History buffs will have the opportunity to test their knowledge on trivia created by the Rhode Island Historical Society, the City of Providence's Archives Department will provide historic memorabilia and the Providence Fire Department will offer a look back on its history.

"Providence will come together to celebrate the great cultural diversity and vibrant communities that are part of our Capital City. I look forward to cutting the birthday cake and celebrating this milestone with our residents as we look back at our city's history and envision its future." said Mayor Taveras.

An area on the second floor of PPAC will feature activities for children. In addition, several artists will contribute their creations in honor of Providence's 375th Birthday. Christopher Johnson, a local spoken word artist, will read his poem "Divine Providence" and members of the Rhode Island Songwriters Association will perform songs they wrote based on the theme of Providence's 375th celebration.

In PPAC Square, Providence's food trucks will be competing for the Providence 375 people's choice award, the Dancing Cop will entertain visitors as he directs traffic and Waterfire will provide a beautiful visual display.

Tickets are available for purchase at the Providence Performing Arts Center Box Office, by calling 401-421-ARTS, online at www.ppacri.org or at City Hall (1st Fl. Lobby) Monday-Friday from 9-3PM. Ticket prices are $3.75, $13.75, $37.50 with all proceeds to benefit the Providence Community Library.
