Experienced litigator leaves private practice to join Taveras team

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has appointed attorney Jeffrey Padwa to serve as City Solicitor for the City of Providence.

"I am very pleased that Jeff Padwa has agreed to serve in my administration. Jeff is a remarkably talented attorney who will leave a very successful private practice to bring important expertise to city government. I have no doubt that he will represent the City of Providence with great integrity and intelligence," said Mayor Taveras.

Padwa, admitted to practice in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, has 18 years of legal experience and currently operates a successful private legal practice that specializes in issues related to elder safety. Padwa is a former President of the Rhode Island Association for Justice and has served on boards including the American Association for Justice and the Jewish Community Center of Rhode Island.

Padwa currently serves on the board of the Jewish Seniors Agency of Rhode Island and recently published a book on elder care titled, "Be an Advocate: How to Keep Loved Ones Healthy & Safe When They are Residents in Nursing Homes."

"I am honored to serve in Mayor Taveras' administration. It is a rare opportunity to join such a dynamic, committed team of professionals who are so clearly working in support of the greater public good. I am looking forward to serving the people of Providence as City Solicitor."

The City Solicitor is a key post in the Mayor's administration and is responsible for implementing all legal policies and procedures of the City to ensure that municipal services and activities are conducted in accordance with City policy and ordinance.

Taveras transmitted his selection of Padwa to the Providence City Council for approval this morning.

"I support the Mayor's appointment of such a well qualified and experienced litigator to run the City's legal department," said City Council President Michael A. Solomon. "The City Council looks forward to the confirmation process in the coming weeks."
