Mayor Cicilline Launches 8th Annual Coat Drive

Drop off warm coats, boots and gloves at collection bins in City buildings

PROVIDENCE - Mayor David N. Cicilline kicked off the City's 8th annual Mayor's Coat Drive and encouraged city employees, residents and business owners to help out those in need this winter by donating warm clothing.

There is a particular need for new or gently used coats, socks, sweatshirts and sweatpants, boots, blankets, gloves or hats. Donations will be made to the nonprofit organizations Rhode Island Donation Exchange Program and Crossroads Rhode Island. The City has set up collection bins in all municipal buildings throughout Providence.

Donation bin sites include:

• Providence City Hall: 25 Dorrance Street
• Providence Public Safety Complex: 325 Washington Street
• Providence Public Schools Administration Building: 797 Westminster Street
• Department of Public Works: 700 Allens Avenue
• Providence Water Supply Board: 552 Academy Avenue
• Department of Parks + Recreation: Boathouse at Roger Williams Park 1000 Elmwood Avenue

The Mayor initiated the Mayor's Coat Drive in January 2003 in response to a bitter cold snap that left many low-income and homeless families and individuals in distress. For more information on the Mayor's Coat Drive, contact 401-351-4300 ext. 627.
